Balbir Raj Prithviraj Kapoor also known as Shashi Kapoor was born on the 18th March, 1938. He is an Indian actor and has appeared in 12 Hollywood and 148 Bollywood films. Shashi Kapoor is the youngest son of the legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramarni Mehra Kapoor. He started acting from a very youn age. He was seen appearing in theatre plays at the age of 4.His father used to own the 'Prithvi theatre group' and used to travel worldwide to many places inorder to perform theatre plays during the year 1948-1953. He is the youngest brother of Shammi Kapoor and Raj Kapoor. In the year 2011 he was honoured with the Padma bhushan by the government of India.As a child artist he appeared in films like Sangram in the year 1950 and Dana Pani in the year 1953. His performances are well recognised in the movies Aag and Awaara. Shashi Kapoor studied at Don Bosco High School in Matunga, Mumbai.When he was travelling for a play his sight fell on the actress Jennifer Kendal from the backstage while taking a look at the audiences reaction. The duo fell in love after subsequent meetings and the actor had full support from his sister-in law Geeta Bali inspite of the initial opposition. Jennifer and Shashi established Prithvi theatre on the 5th November 1978. They had three children Kunal Kapoor, Karan Kapoor and Sanjana Kapoor. Jennifer died of cancer in the year 1984 and that incident left Shashi completely shattered.He has directed movies like Ajooba and Vozvrashcheniye Bagdadskogo Vora which was a Russian film. He has also won three national awards, special jury for the movie Muhafiz, Best actor for New Delhi times, Best feature film in Hindi. He has also been awarded by the Walk of the stars as his hand print was preserved for prosterity at Bandra Bandstand, Mumbai in the year 2013.In the year 1988 he worked with Pierce Brosnan in the movie 'The Deceivers'. He was awarded the lifetime achievement awards at the 55th annual filmfare awards. In may of his Bollywood films he has acted opposite Rakhi, Zeenat Aman, Sharmila Tagore, Hema Malini, Parveen Babi and Mousumhi Chattergi.
