Youngsters more aware, conscious about cleanliness: Arjun Kapoor
Actor Arjun Kapoor says youngsters today are more aware and conscious about having cleanliness.
Arjun was addressing the media at the fifth edition of NDTV-Dettol's Banega Swachh India Cleanathon 2018 along with Parineeti Chopra, Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Amitabh Bachchan to promote Namaste England here on Tuesday.
Asked if he feels whether people are getting more aware about cleanliness in India, he said, "At a very basic level, I would like to believe that people are getting more and more educated every day. We might not see the change today, tomorrow or day after, but I think when you start talking about it, the generations after us will be changed because it has to start from your childhood and (is based on) the way you cultivate mindsets of kids.
"I can see kids and younger generation are more aware and more conscious about cleanliness in their surroundings."
Arjun said this awareness has to spread across the country.
"When I travel across the country, I see lots of people are still grappling with an understanding that what the big deal about plastic is because it is so embedded in their daily lives where they don't see what harm it can cause, and they have a mentality of not being bothered about it, thinking 'We will deal with it later'.
"But now that span is reducing drastically and the effects are visible in front of us... I am very certain that people are getting influenced and it has become a topic of discussion and that is a positive sign."
Actress Parineeti Chopra said people are educating each other about hygiene.
"I can see people on roads pulling down windows of their cars and telling them not to litter, which is so important because everything that we do ends up in the water and shows up on the beach. So, it's so nice to see that people are standing up for their own lives and planet."
Parineeti pointed out how Indians change their attitude when they visit a foreign county.
"When we land abroad, suddenly our manners change. We never litter and we just can't see garbage anywhere. We appreciate cleanliness of that country, then why shouldn't we apply it in our own country? I always find that we are such a contradiction in our own country."
The two actors will feature together in Namaste England, a romantic comedy film directed and co-produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. It will release on 19 October.
Better to wait for right film: Minissha Lamba
Actress Minissha Lamba, who has made her stage debut with a theatre production, says she prefers to wait for a good film rather than grabbing any random opportunity just to maintain visibility.
Talking about why she isn't seen often in films now, Minissha told a leading publication here, "I think I am not getting the kind of work that I want to do in films, and that is why I am channelising my energy in different creative ventures. I want to do films that are substantial and that make me feel happy. It is better to wait for the right films than indulge in random opportunities."
The actress performed in one-act play "Mirror Mirror", in which she essays 13 characters,
"Being a film actress, performing live on stage was nerve-wrecking initially, so I had to do a lot of practice. I focused my mind and went through a certain discipline. Eventually, it was great to see how people responded to my performance almost immediately after the show," said Minissha, who had made her debut in Bollywood in 2005.
She featured in films like Yahaan, Corporate, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., Kidnap, Well Done Abba and Bachna Ae Haseeno.
While she enjoyed the thrill of performing in the theatre medium, the actress said, "The presence of mind needs to be strong when performing live because there might just a technical glitch that occurs on stage and I have to be smart enough to cover that instantly. There are no retakes like that in a film.
"But I must say that theatre helped me to discover the artiste within me. I think now I understand my craft better," added the actress who worked with filmmakers like Shyam Benegal, Reema Kagti and Madhur Bhandarkar.
Asked about if she is open to do a web series, Minissha said, "As an actress, I am not limiting myself in any medium but choosing good content. These days so much work in happening in the entertainment industry and I would love to be a part of it.
As new stories and ideas are getting huge appreciation from the audience, talking about people who she wishes to work with, Minissha promptly said, "I would love to work with my first director Shoojit Sircar."

Talking about the campaign, Bachchan said, "I have been part of cleanliness campaigns under this initiative for last five years, but I think if people are thinking that we will be able to bring the change just by seeing me as a face of this campaign then, it is not enough. We just wanted it to be sustained."
I think we have to keep working towards this campaign even before the problem comes. There has to be some kind of continuation as often we just talk about it and we stop there but no one wants to carry it forward."
Bachchan added that there has to be continuity in terms of cleanliness drives if we desire to achieve the goal of clean India.
"We have to admit the fact that until and unless, there is continuity in this campaign, we will not be able to achieve our goal because it is not something that is going to end today or tomorrow. It has to be there every day and every moment in our life then only, we will be able to achieve what we have set out to do," said the Pink actor.
NDTV-Dettol Cleanathon has worked relentlessly for five years to help build toilets in rural areas, conduct clean-up drives and spread awareness about sanitation, health and hygiene across India. Every year the Cleanathon celebrates Gandhi Jayanti on 2 October as Rashtriya Swachhta Diwas.
Citing his own example Bachchan recalled that how his films sets used to be full of dirt when they used to shoot for a film, he said, "Earlier, we never used to see garbage bins on sets and the set used to look filthy as there used to be dirt all around but because of these campaigns that has been running, now there are garbage cans all over the place."

It is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Yash Raj Films.
