Dolly Parton wants Oscar nomination for 'Dumplin' song

Country music legend Dolly Parton says she is politicking and trying to get a song from the film Dumplin for Oscar nomination.

She was in Los Angeles on Monday to promote Netflix's upcoming movie Dumplin. She performed “Girl in the Movies", an original song she wrote and recorded for the film, for a ballroom full of journalists, reports the leading publication.

"We are just happy to be here because we are actually out politicking trying to get our song heard and maybe get nominated for an award on those Oscars and all that stuff," Parton said before performing the track with her producer Linda Perry on guitar.

She added, "We are really, really proud of this."

Dumplin is based on Julie Murphy‘s 2015 novel of the same name about the plus-size daughter of a former beauty pageant queen, who signs up to compete in a pageant. The daughter is a Parton fanatic and many of her hit songs are played throughout the movie.

Parton and Perry originally teamed up to write just one song.

"Songs just kept coming out of us one night after the others. I just absolutely loved (Perry) and we just connected."

They ended up recording six original tunes.

"This was the first time I ever worked with a female producer," Parton said.

Skarsgard did 'The Little Drummer Girl' due to Kidman

Actor Alexander Skarsgard says his Big Little Lies co-star Nicole Kidman persuaded him to do The Little Drummer Girl.

He will be seen as Becker in the spy thriller, which is spearheaded by prolific South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook.

In an interview with Radio Times, Skarsgard said that it was Kidman who persuaded him to accept the part, as she had previously worked with the director on his Stoke English-language debut, reports the leading publication.

"I was dying to work with Park -- I loved the Oldboy trilogy and The Handmaiden. I was shooting Big Little Lies when I read the script and Nicole said, 'Don't even think about it - you have to do this. He's amazing amazing amazing'. And the fact that it was a John le Carré story, and a character like Becker. I couldn't have been more excited."

Based on Carre's similarly titled novel, the plot, set in 1979, sees actress Charlie (Florence Pugh), meet Becker (Skarsgard) while on holiday in Greece.

LeBron James to produce 'Friday the 13th' reboot

Producers Roy Lees Vertigo Entertainment and LeBron James SpringHill Entertainment are in talks to acquire the rights for a reboot of the Friday the 13th movie.

According to sources, Victor Miller, who penned the original, regained the rights, though it took both production banners to bring back the classic horror series, reports suggest so.

The project is still in early development. No writer or director is attached. It's expected to feature the goalie-mask wearing mass murderer Jason Voorhees, who has been the centre of the hit franchise since the 1980 original.

The Friday the 13th news comes on the heals of Universal and Blumhouse's revival of Halloween.

Martin Garrix named top DJ for third year in a row

Dutch DJ Martin Garrix has grabbed the top spot in DJ Magazines "Top 100 DJs" for the time in a row.

The 22-year-old is only the third artist to accomplish that feat, behind fellow Dutchmen Armin van Buuren and Tiesto. Garrix was the youngest DJ to notch Number 1 in 2016 and retained the title in 2017, reports the leading publication.

Garrix was awarded the trophy by DJ Mag managing director Martin Carvell on stage at the Amsterdam Arena during the Amsterdam Dance Event.

The DJ and producer first garnered fame with "Animals" in 2013, an electronic dance music (EDM) track that charted globally and led to him becoming the youngest producer to have a song reach no. 1 on the electronic music store Beatport.

The Dutch artist has worked with EDM artists like Afrojack and David Guetta, as well as mainstream pop artists such as Usher for 2015's "Don't look down" and Bebe Rexha for "In the name of love" in 2016.

Ant McPartlin's ex-wife slams his new girlfriend

Lisa Amstrong, former wife of television presenter Ant McPartlin, has slammed her ex-husband's new lady love Anne-Marie Corbett for getting involved in a relationship with him.

Amstrong, who was alleged to be Corbett's friend, accused her of being a backstabber by liking the tweets of the fans which were against Corbett, reports the leading publication.

She liked a post from a fan which read: "I'm not, and never, suggested someone stay with anyone if they don't want to. The healthy thing to do is separate. The unhealthy thing to do is to start shacking up with your wife's friend. That's not ok in any circumstances. Major girl code breach."

Amstrong had been sent a legal warning after liking tweets accusing Corbett.

Corbett's lawyers said she was distressed by the attacks, which branded her a "gold digger", "backstabber" and "second best".

Amstrong ended her 12 years of marriage with McPartlin last week and since then she has been seen liking, retweeting and even commenting about Mc Partlin-Corbett's relationship on Twitter.

Women have arrived in film industry: Mexican director

With the upcoming release of Silencio, Mexican director Lorena Villarreal believes that her film is an important step not only for herself but also for all women.

"Now is the time to prove what we are able to do," Villarreal said on Sunday, referring to the opportunities that Hispanic women have in both Mexico and the US, not only in the film industry but also in other aspects of life, reports the leading publication .

With the feminist movement in full swing, women were "less afraid" to express themselves and were producing "great change" step by step, the Mexican director said.

Villarreal also said that any woman who wants to be an actress, an astronomer or a doctor should not falter or be afraid, adding that she was contributing to a "great movement" with Silencio, which meets international quality standards thanks to the thorough work of a very diverse team.

In addition to directing the film, the Los Angeles resident also wrote and co-produced Silencio, which tells the story of Anna, a successful single mother portrayed by Melina Matthews, whose child is abducted by a group of people seeking to get a hold on a powerful stone discovered by the kid's grandfather.

The film - which takes place in Mexico's mysterious "Zone of Silence" - also features John Noble, known for his performance as Denethor in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
