Here we bring you some fresh news from the world of Hollywood.

‘Clueless' remake in process

A comedy film, Clueless, is set to get a remake under the production of Girls Trip writer Tracy Oliver.

Directed and written by Amy Heckerling, the remake will be penned by Marquita Robinson, reported by media publications.

Based on Jane Austen's 1815 novel Emma, the 1995 original was set at a Beverly Hills high school and starred Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz, along with Paul Rudd, Breckin Meyer, Jeremy Sisto, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy and Dan Hedaya.

The movie earned $56 million in the US on a $12 million budget.

Actress Jenelle denies being abused by husband

Teen Mom star Jenelle Evans has denied she was abused by husband David Eason. She says she is fine.

Evans, 26, posted a YouTube video called Confessional: Domestic Violence on Thursday to clarify her stance, reported by media publications.

"I've been wanting to get some things off my chest lately because obviously my name can't stay out of the news," Evans said in the video.

"I'm reporting from my closet right now because I'm trying to hide from the kids while I make this video. I just want to let you guys know that I am completely fine."

The mother of three continued, "I've been off of social media this past week and it's been really beneficial for me. It really helped out with me disconnecting from all the hate, everything that's in the news right now.

"I know everyone's concerned about me, and I know everyone wants to know, ‘Is she okay? How are the kids? Blah blah blah'. Everything's fine. You know, I've been in so many domestic violence situations in the past that I would not put up with it now. So I don't know why you guys would think that I would continue to stay in this relationship if I was being abused."

Evans spoke out following her tearful 911 call in which she alleged her husband Eason assaulted her. She said her past experiences with domestic violence had been "horrible".

"I've been in two or three relationships that were domestic violence. And what did I do? I kept Jace away from it. I had just him at the time," she explained.

"When I had my visits, I had my visits alone and I made sure the other person wasn't around me," she added.

Jamie Lee Curtis joins Rian Johnson's 'Knives Out'

Hollywood actress Jamie Lee Curtis will next be seen in filmmaker Rian Johnson's Knives Out.

The ensemble cast film also stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Lakeith Stanfield, Don Johnson and Ana de Armas, reported by media publications.

Johnson is directing and co-wrote the script with his longtime producing partner Ram Bergman, with whom he collaborated on The Last Jedi.

In addition to Knives Out, Johnson is developing a Star Wars trilogy that would be separate from the Skywalker saga. Little is known about the trilogy but he has said it would take place in a different part of the galaxy and feature new characters not seen before.

Johnny Depp out of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise

Superstar Johnny Depp has been dropped from the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise.

The news comes when Disney Studios is planning a major reboot for the franchise, reported by media publications.

Depp, 55, was the major lead in five movies over the past 15 years.

The original script writer of the franchise, Stuart Beattie, is the first to publicly confirm that Disney Studios appears to be ditching the star as they rework the entire franchise.

Depp, who has been dogged by personal dramas over the past four years, saw his last outing as Jack Sparrow in Dead Men Tell No Tales, which became the lowest performing movie of the films.

Reports suggest so at an event here, Beattie confirmed on camera the reboot meant that Depp was out as Sparrow.

Nodding when it was suggested that Depp was out, he said, "I think he's had a great run. Obviously, he's made that character his own and it's become the character he's most famous for now.

"And kids all over the world love him as that character. So I think it's been great for him, it's been great for us, so I'm just very, very happy about it."

Beattie feels no matter what Depp does next in his career, his Hollywood career high point will be defined by Sparrow and amassing more than $4 billion from the movies.

He said, "I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It's the only character he has played five times, it's the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, it's what he'll be remembered for."

Caitlyn Jenner ends support for Trump

In the backdrop of a possible change in 'gender definition' by the US administration, transgender activist Caitlyn Jenner has ended her support for US President Donald Trump over his record on trans rights.

The ex-Olympic athlete and reality TV star said she had "remained hopeful" that she could work with the Trump administration but in a column for the Washington Post on Thursday, she admitted her position had been a "mistake".

"The reality is that the trans community is being relentlessly attacked by this president," she wrote.

Trump has faced strong criticism after the New York Times reported the government was considering officially defining gender as biological and fixed, the BBC reported.

The change would rescind previous policy which eased trans recognition and would instead define gender solely by the genitalia people are born with.

In her column, Jenner accused Trump of using the trans community as "political pawns".

"The leader of our nation has shown no regard for an already marginalised and struggling community," she said, adding, "He has ignored our humanity. He has insulted our dignity."

In 2017, Jenner told the BBC that she had been "really upset" by some of the Trump policies, including his decision to revoke Obama-era guidance which allowed transgender students to use school toilets matching their gender identity.

"It doesn't make me regret my vote yet, but it is very disappointing and I have been very verbal about that," she said at the time.

The same year, Trump also reinstated a ban on transgender people serving in the military which had been lifted by former President Barack Obama.

He later signed a more limited directive after federal judges ruled the initial ban was probably unconstitutional.

Suspected explosives sent to Biden, Robert De Niro as investigation intensifies

Authorities on Thursday found two packages that appeared to contain pipe bombs addressed to former Vice President Joe Biden and actor Robert De Niro, setting off a new wave of alarm amid probe into similar devices sent to prominent Democrats and critics of President Donald Trump.

A law enforcement official said the envelope and printed address labels on the package sent to De Niro were similar to those on explosives sent to former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others. An X-ray showed it contained a similar device resembling a pipe bomb, the New York Times reported.

The device sent to Biden was found at a US postal service facility in Delaware, a law enforcement official said. Similar to the one sent to former Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., the envelope was misaddressed and was being redirected to the return sender written on the mailing label, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Florida congresswoman.

Law enforcement officials say that in all these incidents, neither bomb got close to its intended target nor contained a written message.

De Niro, like the other recipients of packages, has been an outspoken critic of Trump. Security personnel at his company, TriBeCa Productions, discovered the package about 5 a.m. and called the New York Police Department.

It was removed about 6.30 a.m. and taken to the Police Department's range at Rodman's Neck in the Bronx for disposal.

"Extremely disturbing and frightening. It seems that all the people that were targeted have one thing in common and that is their political beliefs. That is the only thing I can conclude at this point," said the actor's spokesperson.

Some packages, including the device delivered to CNN's offices in New York, arrived by courier. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the authorities did not know whether that meant the sender of the devices lived in the New York area.

"We certainly don't know whether they are here or elsewhere in the country," De Blasio said on CNN. "There is somebody by definition who is a serial bomber, yes, and a terrorist."

On Wednesday, Trump at first denounced the attempted bombings, saying at the White House: "We have to unify." He criticized the news media and Democrats later and asked Americans to "come together in peace and harmony".

On Thursday morning, he did not address the bomb scare directly, but he accused the news media of fanning hatred.

Federal, state and local investigators in New York, Washington, Florida and Los Angeles were involved in the widening case, which has not resulted in any injuries but has sent a shock wave through the nation's political and media establishments.

The first bomb was found on Monday at the home of George Soros, a billionaire activist known to fund pro-democracy and liberal political groups.

On Wednesday, officials said that similar devices were sent to people, including Obama, Clinton and Representative Maxine Waters of California -- all Democrats.

Another bomb, addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, was sent to the offices of CNN in midtown Manhattan.
