MUMBAI:  Here are the new happenings from the world of Hollywood.

Kate Hudson joins 'Blood Moon' team

Actress Kate Hudson is set to star with Craig Robinson in Blood Moon.

Writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour's Blood Moon is being produced by Oscar winner John Lesher (Birdman) via his Le Grisbi banner.

Zac Efron is in talks to join the intriguing fantasy feature, which will chart the story of a girl with strange and dangerous abilities who escapes from a mental asylum in New Orleans, reported by media publications.

Set in hedonistic streets of New Orleans, the film is inspired by fantasy-adventure movies of the 1980s and 1990s. It is understood to pair strange, violent and humourous sequences with a range of music from heavy metal to Italian techno.

Production is set to begin in 2019.

‘Crazy Rich Asians' team heads to China for sequel

The producers of Crazy Rich Asians are planning to shoot the sequel of the hit film in China.

The film will release in China at the end of next month, but the makers are already warming up plans to shoot the film's sequel there.

Producer John Penotti, President of SK Global, said that China Rich Girlfriend is targeting a shoot in Shanghai.

He shared the details on Monday at the Chinese American Film Festival's Co-Production Summit here, reported by media publications.

Billed as the first contemporary English language Hollywood movie with an almost all-Asian cast after a long time, Crazy Rich Asians is based on the book by Kevin Kwan with the same name.

It tells the story of Chinese-American Rachel Chu, her boyfriend Nick Young and the adventure that they go on when Nick takes Rachel to Singapore for his best friend's wedding.

The sequel is an adaptation of Kwan's second book in the Asians series. It is located substantially in China and set two years after the events of Crazy Rich Asians.

Penotti said that it is currently unclear whether the producers will attempt to structure China Rich Girlfriend as an official China-US co-production, according to media reports.

"We certainly tried to make the (first) film as a China-US co-production. But (as a company we) haven't been very good at doing co-productions."

Crazy Rich Asians was a Warner Bros. Pictures release and presentation, and produced by SK Global, Starlight Culture, Color Force, Ivanhoe Pictures, Electric Somewhere.

Tough to be working mom in Hollywood: Mulligan

Actress Carey Mulligan says it is "incredibly difficult" to be a working mother in Hollywood.

She is set to play an alcohol-dependent mother opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the upcoming movie Wildlife.

In an interview with Radio Times, Mulligan, 33, says Hollywood does not know how to deal with pregnant women and new mothers, reported by media publications.

The Suffragette star said that being a working mother in the film industry was tough as "childcare is so expensive".

"I've never, ever been on a set where they have childcare, but I've been on lots of sets where lots of people have very young children... I had my daughter on the set of (2017 Netflix drama) Mudbound and Wildlife and loads of the crew had kids, but they had to arrange childcare. It's always incredibly complicated," said the mother of two.

"Childcare on set would make it possible for a lot of talented people to come and do their job. At the moment, it's limiting," she added.

Mulligan is married to Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford. They have two children -- daughter Evelyn Grace, three, and son Wilfred, 14 months.

"I don't think we're at the level where it (being pregnant) is acceptable across the board yet. I think if people can hide it, they do."

Charlie Hunnam, Mel Gibson join action thriller 'Waldo'

Actors Mel Gibson, Charlie Hunnam and Eiza Gonzalez have been roped in to star in Tim Kirkbys action-thriller titled Waldo.

The movie will be shot in the first quarter and centre on a disgraced former Los Angeles Police Department detective, played by Hunnam, living the life of a minimalist in the woods, reported by media publications.

His quiet life comes to a startling halt when he is roped back into working as a private eye to investigate the murder of an eccentric television star's wife.

Gibson can next be seen in Dragged Across Concrete, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival this year. Hunnam starred in Sons of Anarchy.

Gonzalez is best known for her role alongside Ansel Elgort in Edgar Wright's Baby Driver and can next be seen in Robert Zemeckis' Welcome to Marwen.

Dunham to write Syrian refugee story for Spielberg

Actress Lena Dunham will write for the big screen the harrowing survival tale of a Syrian refugee stranded at sea.

Dunham has been tapped by co-producers Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams to adapt A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea: One Refugee's Incredible Story of Love, Loss and Survival, reported by media publications.

The non-fiction release comes from author Melissa Fleming, the chief spokeswoman for the UN High Commissioner and Flatiron Books.

It documents the true story of Doaa Al Zamel, a mother of two fleeing Egypt for Sweden by boat. Shipwrecked along the way, Al Zamel survived for days in open water holding two small children in each arm with only the support of an inflatable water ring.

The project is set up at Paramount Pictures with Abrams' Bad Robot and Spielberg's Amblin Partners producing. Arif Hussein will executive produce the film, which Amblin and Paramount are expected to co-distribute globally.

Muschietti to direct 'Attack on Titan'

After the record-breaking box office run of It, director Andy Muschietti has found his next project.

Muschietti will direct a feature film adaptation of Attack on Titans for Warner Bros. The studio finalised a deal with Japan-based publishing company Kodansha on Monday, reported by media publications.

Attack on Titan, written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, has become one of the best-selling manga series with over 76 million copies in print since debuting in 2009.

It is set in a world in which humanity lives in cities surrounded by enormous walls protecting themselves from gigantic humanoids that are referred to as titans.

David Heyman is producing the film with Masi Oka and Andy's sister Barbara Muschietti.

This isn't the first time Attack on Titan is getting the big screen treatment. Shinji Higuchi directed a Japanese version in 2015. It was released in two parts and earned $46 million. In 2013, Wit Studios debuted an anime television series.

Andy's adaptation of It -- based on the Stephen King novel -- became one of the biggest horror film of all time with $700 million worldwide. He is currently in production on the sequel It: Chapter 2.

DuVernay working on documentary on Prince

Filmmaker Ava DuVernay is working with Netflix on a documentary on late American singer-songwriter Prince.

According to sources, the project has the full cooperation of the late artiste's estate, which is providing with interviews, archival footage and photos, reported by media publications.

The multiple-part documentary will cover the artiste's entire life.

Renowned for her work on Selma and Queen Sugar, DuVernay made her big-screen debut in 2008 with This Is the Life, which chronicled the alternative hip-hop scene in Los Angeles in the 1990s.

A source said a documentary about Prince and the Revolution's legendary concert at Minneapolis' First Avenue in August of 1983 has landed at Apple Music.

Pharrell Williams asks Trump not to play 'Happy'

Singer Pharrell Williams has warned US President Donald Trump against playing his Happy song, after it was used at a rally just hours after the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting.

Williams' attorney Howard E. King sent a cease-and-desist letter to Trump on Monday after Happy was played at his Saturday rally in Murphysboro in Illinois, reported by media publications.

"On the day of the mass murder of 11 human beings at the hands of a deranged ‘nationalist', you played his song Happy to a crowd at a political event in Indiana," King said in the letter.

"There was nothing ‘happy' about the tragedy inflicted upon our country... and no permission was granted for your use of the song...," he added.

Eleven people from the age group of 54 to 97 were gunned down on 28 October at the Tree of Life synagogue, where three separate congregations were holding services.

Gunman Robert Bowers has been charged with 29 counts of federal crimes including murder, ethnic intimidation and hate crimes.

Trump acknowledged the shooting at the Illinois rally as a "wicked act of mass murder", "pure evil, hard to believe and frankly something that is unimaginable".

Williams, however, would still not allow Trump to use any of his music under any circumstances. "Pharrell has not, and will not, grant you permission to publicly perform or otherwise broadcast or disseminate any of his music.

"The use of Happy without permission constitutes copyright infringement," the legal notice to Trump said.

Dev Patel to make directorial debut

Slumdog Millionaire actor Dev Patel is set to make his directorial debut with revenge thriller titled Monkey Man.

Patel will also act in the movie, which is being presented to buyers at this year's American Film Market (AFM), reports variety.com.

Monkey Man centres on a boy (Patel), who emerges from prison to grapple with a world marred by, in the words of the logline, "corporate greed and eroding spiritual values".

The release announcing the project was slim on plot details beyond saying that the film is set in modern-day India, but also deals with mythology.

Patel, an Oscar nominee for Lion, co-wrote the script with Paul Angunawela and John Collee.

The production is set to start in spring 2019 in Mumbai.

Patel's upcoming films include The Personal History of David Copperfield and Hotel Mumbai.
