MUMBAI : Death of talented actor Sushant Singh Rajput once again initiated talks about the importance of mental health. It’s a month after the actor’s death, and many actors from Film and TV industries have opened up about going through depression and mental stress one of them is actor Sharad Malhotra. Debuting on small screen with the TV show, Banoo Main Teri Dulhann in 2006, the actor became one of the most celebrated actors of the TV industry, however after his successful stint on TV when he took a leap into films, he couldn’t achieve the desired heights and slipped into depression.

He acted in 2 Bollywood films such as Sydney with Love and Ek Tera Saath, both failed to strike a chord with the audience. In conversation with Times Of India, he mentioned after a successful TV career, he thought he would be the next Shah Rukh Khan, he said, “After my shows became hits, I was under this notion that I would become the next Shah Rukh Khan. I starred in two films — From Sydney with Love and Ek Tera Saath — and both were huge flops. I felt like my dreams were shattered. I found it difficult to come to terms with the fact that my films did not work. That was the worst phase of my life because I had already stopped thinking of doing TV shows.”

He further adds as he tasted failure with his Bollywood debut, he distanced himself from everyone and diverted himself towards spiritual and meditation which helped him finally gather courage to spring back in action and seek for work. He said, “For four years, I kept away from everyone. Eventually, I turned towards spirituality, meditated daily and focused on exercising. It took me another two years to muster enough courage and gather confidence to look for work.”

The Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap actor says, “I finally understood what television had given me and decided to try my luck there and TV welcomed me again.”

Though the actor shares enjoying TV, he also shared that he has not given up on the thought of films. Muskaan actor says, “I have realised that success and failure keep happening. It should not be the end of the road or life. I learnt that one needs to be extremely patient and mentally strong, because there are so many rejections that we face every day, which can be disturbing. Hence, I feel no one has a right to pass judgement over Sushant’s death. We don’t know what was going on in his mind.”

Concluding his conversation by saying, “It took me four years to face the world and only I know what my mental situation was during that period. I am happy that I recovered and am back to living a happy life again.”
