Want to surpass audience expectation: Actor Gulshan Devaiah

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who is preparing for his 'bad guy' role in the third instalment of Vidyut Jammwal starrer Commando, feels artistes should always surprise audience.

"There are certain expectations with franchises such as Commando 3," the 40-year-old Hunterrr actor said in a statement.

"Besides giving the audience what they expect, I intend to give them something more." This is not the first time that Gulshan is playing a negative character, he has earlier played the antagonist in Shaitaan and Hate Story.

Talking about his experience of Commando 3, Gulshan said, "It was fun to be undergoing this process and trying new creative ways with my co-actors. I'm working with many of them for the first time, including Vidyut.

"The team is taking the story forward and coming up with something new as to what an action franchise can be in terms of storytelling and characters, based in current times with a commercial mass appeal."

Gulshan also shared that director Aditya Datt has given him freedom to essay his role in his own way.

"I'm trying to bring in my own creative interpretation of what a modern antagonist is. The makers did not have restriction and have given me the liberty to bring out the character in my own way.

"I've done all the research and have been preparing for the film for the past two months," he said.

The Commando series was introduced in 2011 with Commando: A One Man Army. The second one was Commando 2: The Black Money Trail. Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah has backed the franchise.

Varun and Anushka, the star cast of the film, have partnered with Skill India and will dedicate time to promote India's skilled talent and their fine work by engaging with them in different parts of the country.

"Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma, through this unique film Sui Dhaaga - Made in India, are bringing to focus the incredible skills and talent of our homegrown artisan and craftsmen community," Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said in a statement.

Led by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Skill India aims to standardise vocational training -- both new-age and traditional skills, and helps in the creation of the latest infrastructure, ensures industry partnerships to extend technology support to make the youth more employable and assists in creating opportunities of employment for the youth of the country.

Varun, Anushka work in textile factory for film

Actors Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma worked in a textile factory in Faridabad for the forthcoming film Sui Dhaaga - Made in India.

To become a self-reliant tailor Mauji and his embroiderer wife Mamta, Varun and Anushka shot in the outskirts of Delhi at a real textile factory to get authentic visuals of how small scale businesses operate and how textile workers from small towns work in factories.

"We have tried to keep Sui Dhaaga as authentic to real life as possible. We lived the life of Mauji and Mamta for this film and this journey took us to work in an actual clothing factory in Faridabad," Anushka said in a statement.

"We shot there for four days with real workers who tirelessly work day and night to produce outstanding pieces of garments. We learnt how to operate the machines from them which was very helpful," she added.

Varun shared that the factory in Faridabad was a perfect location to shoot.

"The equipment and machinery looked genuine and extremely authentic to be the place where Mauji and Mamta's first brush with a textile factory could be. To prep for our parts, we both interacted and met with all the real workers on set and exchanged notes. These people were invaluable in getting us more prepared for our characters," he added.

A film about finding love and respect through self-reliance, Sui Dhaaga - Made in India is a heart-warming story that celebrates the spirit of self-reliance.

Time for Indian cinema to explode onto global stage: Ali Fazal

Actor Ali Fazal, who played one of the title roles in Stephen Frears' directorial Victoria & Abdul with veteran actor Judi Dench, feels that now is the time for Indian cinema to make its presence felt like never before on global platforms.

Would he agree that this is the time in Bollywood when most of the "outsiders" are doing phenomenally well including the actors?

They segregated people from the outside but your question is also typecasting the working class... there is no inside. It's time for Indian cinema to explode into the global stage. Talent will not be avoided," Ali told a publication in an e-mail interview.

Ali, who impressed the audience with his roles in films like 3 Idiots, Fukrey and Happy Bhag Jayegi, made his Hollywood debut with Fast and Furious 7featuring Hollywood stars like Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson.

Talking about doing diverse roles, he said, "Earlier it wasn't deliberate as I did what came my way. But yes, now I choose unpredictability as that's the key to my creative juices."

It's not just his acting career, he is also one of the fittest actors in Bollywood.

Ali is trained by Shivoham - a celebrity fitness trainer and brand ambassador of SF Health Tech, which is a new fitness equipment manufacturing brand founded by Sancket Kamdar and Varun Rode along with Shivoham.

A lot of my discipline came from CrossFit... by the man who introduced CrossFit to India - Shivoham. According to me, CrossFit uses a lot of your own body and equipment as accessories," he said.

But what does he have to say about this entire obsession with fitness that is making stars look out for roles that make them look good?

“It's obsessive in all the wrong sense. Many people forget about the fitness part and jump to the perfect cosmetic body. It's empty. I can outrun a lot of eight pack holders in Bollywood. Put them on the field or the court or the outdoor. An actor has to be ready to get into all shapes and sizes and be able to master the subject," he said.

So how does he keep himself fit during tough schedules?

“There are times I cannot, but somewhere you have to tell yourself that working out is or has to be like brushing your teeth. You cannot have clean teeth after just one day. It's part of your life," he said.

Ali is also the goodwill ambassador of Smile Train. The organisation helps children with cleft lips.
