Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s next film Chitthiyaan is inspired by the life of his late wife and film editor Renu Saluja, sister of film actress Radha Saluja.
Chopra’s film will not only trace his relationship with Renu but also the dynamics between him and Sudhir Mishra at a later stage. Apparently, Renu’s involvement with Mishra had caused friction between the filmmakers who were once thick friends.
Chopra’s film will therefore need two male and one female lead actor. The cast of the film will be officially announced soon. Sharman Joshi is likely to play one of the leading men, said a source close to the project. Reportedly, Ranbir Kapoor had been sounded off for the other lead role but things did not work out.
Renu, a four-time national award winner for best editing, continued to work with Chopra even after she got involved with Mishra. And though there had been friction between the two filmmakers initially, the two were cordial with each other till she expired on 16 August 2000.
Incidentally, Sudhir Mishra had recently said that his next Arjun Rampal - Chitrangdha Singh starrer Inkaar was dedicated to his former partner Renu Saluja.
