MUMBAI: The weekend is here, and TellyChakkar is back with a new set of exciting news from the world of Bollywood. So sit back, relax, and read on to know what your favourite Bollywood stars are up to.

Salman starts Malta schedule of Bharat

After wrapping up the Mumbai schedule of his upcoming film Bharat, superstar Salman Khan is now shooting in Malta, which he calls a ‘lovely country’.

Salman tweeted a photograph of himself and captioned it, ‘Starting the shooting schedule of Bharat in Malta, lovely country’.

The Dabangg star’s brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri, who is co-producing the film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, tweeted, ‘Bharat in Malta’.

For his role in the film, Salman Khan will undergo multiple look changes as its timeline is spread across decades: from 1960 until the current time. Bharat also stars Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani, Tabu, and Nora Fatehi, among others.

The film is an official adaptation of a South Korean film titled Ode To My Father (2014). It is produced by Atul Agnihotri’s Reel Life Production Pvt. Ltd. and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series.

Bharat is slated for an Eid release in 2019.

Can’t wait to be Maari again: Dhanush

Actor–filmmaker–singer Dhanush says he cannot wait to be Maari, a character he enjoyed and cherished playing in the upcoming Tamil comedy Maari 2.

Dhanush tweeted that the shooting for the film has been concluded: ‘And that is a wrap for Maari 2. Loved being Maari once again. Cannot wait to be Maari again. A character I enjoy and cherish playing.’

Directed by Balaji Mohan, Maari 2 also stars Sai Pallavi. The Tamil action–comedy film marks Balaji’s second collaboration with Dhanush after Maari.

Veteran music composer Ilaiyaraaja has sung a song for Maari 2.

In Maari, Dhanush played a dhoti-clad, moustache-twirling local rowdy and was paired with Kajal Aggarwal.

Actors Robo Shankar and Vinod, who played Dhanush’s sidekicks in the first part, will also be a part of Maari 2. Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas plays the antagonist.

Tamannaah Bhatia excited about giving retro twist to KGF

Actress Tamannaah Bhatia says she had fun shooting for a retro number in the period drama KGF.

Tamannaah shot for the recreated version of the song Jokae Naanu Balliya Minchu, which was picturised on the late Vijayalalitha in director Rajkumar's Kannada film Paropakari.

‘This is the first time I will be doing a retro number. I've never had such a fun-filled fulfilling experience like I did on this dance sequence. It is a retro cabaret set-up and I've never attempted to do this before so, it was a learning experience of sorts,’ Tamannaah said in a statement to a leading publication.

The song has been choreographed by Jani Master and styled by costume designer Archa Mehta. Apart from Tamannaah, the song will feature glimpses of Yash and Srinidhi Shetty.

The film is being helmed by director Prashanth, and will have Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi versions. Yash plays Rocky in KGF, which spans across the 1970 and early 1980 eras.

Pankaj Tripathi starts shooting for Luka Chuppi

Actor Pankaj Tripathi has started shooting for Luka Chuppi and says it is a very interesting film.

The actor headed to Gwalior to join actors Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon, with whom he had worked in Bareilly Ki Barfi.

‘I have a very interesting part in Luka Chuppi and I am waiting to reunite with Kriti. We have a good bond because of Bareilly Ki Barfi where we played father and daughter. Here we are playing two different characters,’ Pankaj said in a statement.

The Newton actor added that he has a lot of love for Kartik.

‘He is a good boy who likes me and never fails to say something nice about all my work. I am very excited and Laxman is a fantastic director. It is going to be fun, and it is a very interesting film.’

Luka Chuppi is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan.

Pankaj also has Stree, Super 30, and Shakeela in his kitty.

Anupam Kher calls Ryan Eggold ‘coolest co-actor’

Veteran actor Anupam Kher has called Ryan Eggold his coolest co-actor and says it is a joy working with him.

Anupam on Saturday wished Ryan, with whom he is starring in the American drama series New Amsterdam.

‘Happy Birthday my friend and the coolest super co actor Ryan Eggold. May God give you all the happiness in the world. It is a joy to work with you and to know you,’ Anupam wrote alongside a string of photographs from the show's set.

Inspired by Bellevue, the oldest public hospital in the US, the series follows the story of brilliant and charming doctor Max Goodwin, played by Ryan Eggold, the institution's newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care.

The cast of the series includes Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, and Tyler Labine.

On the Bollywood front, Anupam will soon be seen in The Accidental Prime Minister.

The film is based on a book by Sanjaya Baru, a media advisor to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Akshaye Khanna features as Baru, and Divya Seth Shah plays Manmohan Singh's wife Gursharan Kaur in the movie.

It is directed by debutant Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, along with Hansal Mehta as the creative producer.

The film is slated to release on December 21.

Start of a new film always feels like a mission: Arjun Kapoor

Actor Arjun Kapoor, who has commenced shooting for his 12th movie, India's Most Wanted, says the starting of a new film is like a mission.

Arjun on Saturday tweeted a photograph of the film's clapboard and captioned it: ‘The start of a new film always feels like a mission and this time it actually is with India's Most Wanted. Happy and excited starting my 12th film! Mark the date May 24, 2019.’

The film's director Raj Kumar Gupta shared the same photograph and captioned it, ‘A mission we are excited to share. India's Most Wanted is now on floors. Mark your calendar on May 24, 2019 for India's Most Wanted.’

Raj Kumar Gupta has previously directed films like No One Killed Jessica and Raid.

In India's Most Wanted, Arjun plays an intelligence officer. It will be shot in Nepal and Delhi.

The film is about finding and arresting a terrorist during a secret mission.

Manmarziyan trailer exudes untamed energy

There is something raw and unrehearsed about the way the three actors in Manmarziyan play out the tangle within a triangle. In just a minute or two, we know exactly what they are all about. Or rather, what they are not about.

This is not the world of sacrifices that we've seen in other triangular tales like Raj Kapoor's Sangam or Sai Pranjpe's Katha. The protagonists of Manmarziyan want it all and they want it now. Rumi, Robbie, and Vicky are three small-town livewires, not particularly bright or even halfway sophisticated.

There is a quality of carnal stupor in the way they respond to social stimuli. Vicky (Vicky Kaushal) wants Rumi (Taapsee Pannu) and she wants him back.

Enter the calm Robbie (Abhishek Bachchan), who we fear will be judged unfavourably against Vicky Kaushal. And we are not talking about the script. Most people think that the more aggressive performance is the better performance.

Remember how Amitabh Bachchan's aggression walked away with all the accolades in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Namak Haraam, while Rajesh Khanna's subdued act got overshadowed?

Movie audiences have not changed much since then. But thankfully, the movies have. The main characters in Manmarziyan are painted in bold, broad strokes. They are carnal and obstinate; they are self-serving and not ashamed of it. At one point, Rumi on a honeymoon with the sober Ronnie complains to her mother that they can't have fun since he forgot to pack condoms.

These characters don't need protection. They need prayers.

Batti Gul Meter Chalu is an extremely mainstream film: Shahid Kapoor

Actor Shahid Kapoor says his forthcoming film Batti Gul Meter Chalu is an extremely mainstream film that has elements of fun, humour, and issue-based commentary.

Shahid was interacting with the media at the trailer launch of Batti Gul Meter Chalu along with his co-actors Shraddha Kapoor and Divyendu Sharma, director Shree Narayan Singh, and producer Bhushan Kumar on Friday here.

Asked whether it's a conscious effort to mix up an issue-based film with his commercial film releases, Shahid said, ‘I don't think this film isn't a mainstream film. I think it's an extremely mainstream film. I think issues don't make a film non-mainstream. It's the take on the issue which makes a film non-mainstream. If this film had some serious title then this film's tonality would have been different and its reach would have been slightly limited.’

‘I always feel that if you want to say something good then it must reach a wider audience and I think that's the talent of Shree (Narayan Singh) Sir because the title of his earlier film included word ‘toilet' which can put off people but it could reach such a large number of people.’

Praising the director more, the actor said, ‘The way he tells his story is like a commercial film. So, I think title of our film is very quirky and the film is full of humour and fun. In between all that, wherever we have got chance to give a message we have given the message about the issue.’

Talking about the relevance of the film in India, Shahid said, ‘It talks about the issue of electricity, which is a fundamental human right in India. There are around 31 million homes in our country where there is no electricity. We all must have experienced that there is certain rise in the amount of bills after privatisation of electricity so, it's really a relevant issue. I think metro cities like Mumbai don't have to deal with scarcity of electricity but if you go to the interior parts of India then you will realise how important this issue is among common people.’

Yash Chopra contributed a lot to Indian cinema: Varun Dhawan

Actor Varun Dhawan, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Sui Dhaaga - Made In India under the Yash Raj Films banner, says that the late veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra contributed a lot to Indian cinema.

Varun on Saturday tweeted a photograph of himself posing in front of Chopra's statue and captioned it: ‘Sui Dhaaga - Made In India is my first film under the Yash Raj Films banner. Yash Chopraji was truly a Made In India Director and has contributed a lot to Indian cinema. Can not wait for you to see the trailer on August 13.’

Also starring Anushka Sharma, the film is about finding love and respect through self-reliance. Its plot is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy and takes a leaf out of the Make in India campaign.

The team of the film reached out to local artisans and craftsmen from across the country to create the logo of the film through their unique stitching styles.

The logo was launched on Tuesday, coinciding with National Handloom Day.

It took the team six months to plan, research, and execute the film's logo in 15 different styles, including in hand needlework forms of Kashida and Sozni from Kashmir, colourful Phulkari from Punjab, the intricate thread work forms Rabari and Mochi Bharat from Gujarat, Phool Patti from Uttar Pradesh, and Zardozi work from Lucknow.

Directed by Sharat Kataria and produced by Maneesh Sharma, Sui Dhaaga - Made In India will release on September 28.

Shatrughan Sinha calls Mulk bold and socially relevant

Actor–politician Shatrughan Sinha has lauded filmmaker Anubhav Sinha's latest release Mulk and said that the film is bold, beautiful, socially relevant, and balanced.

‘Just watched a very bold, beautiful, socially relevant and very well balanced film Mulk, by ace director, Anubhav Sinha. Friend and film maker, Sheetal Talwar organised a special screening in Mumbai with elder brother and statesman, Yashwant Sinha, Ghanshyam Tiwari (SP) and friends,’ Shatrughan tweeted on Saturday.

The 72-year-old, who is the father of actress Sonakshi Sinha, praised the cast and crew of the film, which revolves around the struggles of a Muslim joint family from a small town in India, who fight to reclaim their honour after a member of their family takes to terrorism.

‘Right from the cast, crew to techniques, the film is phenomenal. Rishi Kapoor, an actor par excellence is superb. Taapsee Pannu yet again gives a tremendous performance. Ashutosh Rana as usual is fantastic. Special mention to Kumud Mishra who has essayed the role of a judge....simply steals the show by his natural flair for acting. Prateik Babbar, Kudos! Left a great impact,’ he wrote.

Mulk features Taapsee Pannu, Rishi Kapoor, Rajat Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, Neena Gupta, Prateik Babbar, Manoj Pahwa, and Prachee Shah Pandya in lead roles.

It released on August 3.

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna understood better today: Karan Johar

Filmmaker Karan Johar says that Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, which completed 12 years of its release on Saturday, is understood better today.

Karan tweeted that the film, which had polarised responses, is very special to him.

‘A film that will always remain special to me! Had polarised responses but is discussed and probably understood better today! My dream cast Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji,’ he wrote.

Released in 2006, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna revolves around Dev and Maya meeting in the middle of their individually failing marriages. They become friends and try to help each other in salvaging their marriages but end up falling in love instead.

Currently, Karan has several films in his kitty, including Student of the Year 2, Kalank, and Takht.

I look for roles that stress me out: Adah Sharma

Actress Adah Sharma, who is starring in a short film titled Moh, says she looks for roles that will stress her out and give her sleepless nights.

‘I look for roles that I have not done before, something that will stress me out (in a good way) and give me sleepless nights the day before shoot. When I read this script, I was sure I had to do this,’ Adah said in a statement.

The actress said her performance in Moh is the best one so far.

‘I'm lucky to get a role like this. For everyone who has liked my performance in Kshanam, 1920, and Heartattack, these three movies especially, will love this film and hopefully, it will leave you choked with a lump in your throat,’ she added.

Adah also has Commando 3, Charlie Chaplin 2, and Soulmate, where she will be playing a double role.

Shah Rukh Khan shimmies with Caribbean cheerleaders

SRK owns another cricket team Trinbago Knight Riders as part of Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Jamaica Tallawahs’ swashbuckling all-rounder Andre Russell single-handedly destroyed them on Friday night. His team lost, but looks like Shah Rukh Khan was not going to let anything dampen his already joyful mood. He greeted the crowd, smiled, and waved. Then, he did a small walk and shimmied to the local tunes with the cheerleaders.

Ananya Panday’s debut film to be Gully Boy and not Student of the Year 2?

Karan Johar’s Student of the Year 2 would have been Ananya Panday’s debut film if it had released in November, but now, the movie has been postponed to March 2019. It seems that Ananya has a cameo role in Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Gully Boy, which releases on 14 February 2019, but can it be considered her debut film even though she is not one of the central characters?

Aditi Rao Hydari’s Aamir Khan act

Aditi Rao recently shared a video where she is singing the song Aati Kya Khandala and trying to act like Aamir Khan. She acted out the song with one of her friends.
