Dynamism could well be Abhinav Shukla's middle name. After helming the success of Nautanki films in the television world with blockbuster serials, Abhinav is gearing up to set foot in Bollywood with his maiden venture, Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami. In a detailed chat with Tellychakkar.com, Abinav talks about his movie, the 100 crore club and SRK.

How did the idea to produce Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami germinate?

Mukul Abhyankar told me about this story which he had in mind and I was immediately lured by the entire concept of how two sons go the distance to get their honest father the ultimate mark of respect. I immediately wanted to produce it into a movie. Rahil Kazi then developed the idea more and wrote the script.

Why didn't you choose a grand project to make your movie debut with?

Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami is grand in every way. The crew is replete with known names from the industry be it the cinematographer Sanjay Memane, writer Rahil Kazi, choreographer Pony Verma, music director Ram Sampath. So we didn't cut down on grandiose in any manner.

What would you say is the USP of Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami?

When we finalized the script of Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami in January 2013, we were very clear that this story of a common man would appeal to all Indians. Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami is the highest honour that any Indian can get. It is the kind of rare honour that the President of India or freedom fighters or patriots are bestowed on. The film’s story is a right blend of socially relevant messages blended with humour in a satirical way. It’s all about the Mango Man or the Aam Aadmi who takes centrestage.

Why did you choose newcomers despite having the means to cast superstars?

The script demanded a new star cast and we have chosen those who fit the role well. The story didn't need any superstars. Also had we waited to sign a superstar it would have taken us three years to complete the film.

How much financial freedom did you allow your director to use on sets?

(Laughs) You should be asking the director this question. But we believe in spending whatever is required and haven't compromised on production values of the film.

As a producer, how do you view the 100 crore club?

It's become a benchmark now. I would also like to touch that mark one day. As of now, we are focussing on marketing our movie and placing it before the audience. If they like it, then we will obviously make profit.

What has been your biggest challenge as a producer?

As a producer who is entering Bollywood, people don't take you seriously. So it was challenge to produce market and release this movie on a large scale. We have given our sweat and blood to this project.

You are close to SRK. Any plans of working with him?

I am grateful and humbled that Mr. Khan has lent his support to our movie. Everyone would want to work with Mr Khan. So if in future there is an opportunity we will surely collaborate.
